Two wood statues formerly polychrome depicting two allegories of Love, one holding lighting and a book symbolising the force of Love, the other holding a snake symbolising Love as treacherous.

Work from the Restoration Period in the manner of the 18th century

Height : 102 cm (40.1 in.) and 97 cm (38.2 in.)

Wood base covered in fabric from a later period, 9 x 23 x 19 cm

Presumed provenance : collection Pillet-Will L’hôtel particulier des Pillet-Will, 31 rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré in Paris, became ambassador of Japan in 1967.
