Stamped J Popsel and JME Jean Popsel, cabinet-maker originally from Germany, born in 1720, worked for many years as a privileged artisan on the Faubourg Saint Antoine before becoming master on the 5th July 1755. We can find the J. POPSEL stamp on fine marquetry pieces, with decoration of tiles, flowers and attributes. Our commode is distinguishable by its fine proportions and sober character.
