Tapestry hanging (Shwe Chi Doe). Burma, 20th Century


Square-shaped tapestry handing (Shwe Chi Doe) representing a galloping horse inset in circular medallion. Composed of different types of fabric (wool, cotton, velvet, felt) sewn with gilt threading, ornated with brass roundels, translucent glass beads and embroideries with small chain stitching.
Embroidered tapestries (Shwe Chi Doe) are called kalaga (curtain) in the English language.
