Brass scale model stupa reliquary, symbolizing the Buddhist law (dharma)

Each part of the stupa correspond to one of the five steps, color, element and syllable. Atop octagonal base, the bell-shaped structure (anda), surmounted with two square structures or dome top (harmika), center with pillar (stambha) supporting a certain number of parasols (chattrayashti), and small stupi. The shape of the stupa evolved in response to the eras and countries where Buddhism developed.
