In this sculpture, the iconography of the famous painting entitled « La Madonne de Port LLigat » (1950) and the painting « Leda atomique » (Leda Atomica) (1949) overlap. Shaped as a tabernacle, the pierced stomach is an extract from the first painting while, while the posture with open arms is inspired from Leda. In both cases the model is Gala, his wife, who in this sculpture fusions the maternal attributes of the Virgin with the Nymph, an enchantress who is seduced by Zeus.
