According to the Benezit Dictionary of Artists, Roussel-Masure was a student at Julian Academy, where he was friends with Valtat, G. D'Espagnat and A. André. A Moret, where he first worked, he aligned with Sisley and Pissarro. He then followed the teachings of Monet, around Giverny. In 1914, he resided in Cagnes- sur-mer.
