Ferdinand III was important in Spanish Medieval history. Politically he was able to unite the kingdoms of Castile and Léon in 1230. Concerning the military, Ferdinand pushed the Reconquista south of the Iberian Peninsula.
His actions against the Moors deemed him canonized in 1671. He died on May 30, 1252 in Seville. His Christian saint day is May 30.
