Pierre-Narcisse GUERIN (Paris, 1774 - Rome, 1833).
Young Lady Wearing a Crown of Cypress Leaves.
Canvas.
Bearing an apocryphal signature on the lower left : Guerin.
46.5 x 38 cm (18-1/4 x 15 in.)
We thank Ms. Bottineau who confirmed the authenticity of the painting after an examination and a comparison with the Guérin composition at the Louvre Museum : Andromache and Pyrrhus.
Condition report:
The picture seems to have retained its canvas of origin. Has a soiled, irregular, slightly yellowed varnish. The picture was slightly de-glazes in small areas like the neck, nose tip and upper lip, in which we note a repaint on the edge measuring approximately 2x0,5 cm (3/4x1/4 in.). We note minute wear along eyelids.
Despite minor loss of glazing , the painting is in a good state of conservation.
It is presented in an Empire style, gilded and stuccoed wooden frame, late 19th Century.
