Pewter wine flagon, 17th-18th Century


Hexagonal pewter wine flagon called “Prismenkanne” with canted spout terminating with articulated hinged flap. Fitted with screwed-on lid with vertical loop finial.

Bearing owner’s mark engraved with inlaid shield E.B.S. 1717 and maker’s mark of Benedikt 1er Schnewli, master status at Stein am Rhein (Canton of Schaffausen, Switzerland) in 1687 : city coat of arms (Saint George) / initials B.S.
