Brass oil lamp adapting fountain-shape with basin. Pierced reflector is ornated with goddess Laksumi, anointed by two elephants (gaja).
Different oil lamps (dipa) were used in numerous Hindu ceremonies and sacrifices during puja (private or public Hindu prayer or sacrifice ritual involving seven steps). These lamps were lit by oil or clarified butter (ghee).
