ODIOT, Paris. Silvered bronze presentation cup of the French Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce, 1881
Agricultural prize cup in cast silvered bronze with engraved, chiselled and applied decoration.
Round quadripod base resting on alternate pairs of hoof feet and scroll feet with acanthus leaves underneath matted tapered cartouches and drops of fruits on scrolling ends within rims of gadroons.
The central section with two large moulded cartouche bands on matted ground with swags of oak leaves and reeded rims and enhanced with two large applied medallions of moulded scrolls and acanthus leaves united by laurels swags joining two side handles, each depicting a bovine’s muzzle with laurel wreath.
The lower section with moulded grooves resting on a reeded ring underneath a frieze of acanthus leaves. The upper section with a gadrooned frieze below an ogee moulding and framed with laurel palms and two oak leaf wreaths clasped to the central medallions.
Medallions engraved with the inscriptions : « Ministère de l’Agriculture et du Commerce Laroche-sur-Yon 1881 » and « Prix d’Ensemble Espèce Bovine ».
Base signed ODIOT in Paris.
