Louis FACHAT (Born in 1926)

Louis Fachat was born in Zagreb, Croatia. He studied Slavic languages at the Faculty of Language Arts, while working on his early theories within the visual arts at the same time.
He obtained a scholarship in 1952 and settled in Paris where he was working on a master’s in comparative literature at the Sorbonne. He studied also at the Paris School of Fine Arts, while taking part in numerous group exhibitions at the Montparnasse studios under the name of “Groupe du Dôme”. He befriended Giacometti, Guzman, and Szabo.
1955-1965: His paintings became more abstract. During the following years, he created a dynamic space within the painting where shapes were placed in a rotating movement.
1958: Influenced by Schneider, he became interested in gestural theories.
1955-1965: This decade was noted for numerous group shows and he participated in the following fairs: Salons of Autumn, SNAP, Montrouge, Porte de Versailles and Issy-les-Moulineaux. The latter he exhibits continuously. He became part of the Issy-les-Moulineaux group and colaborated by building and researching with the cultural space, “Espace 31”. He is still an active member of “Groupe du Dôme” and participates in numerous exhibitions held at the Montparnesse studios. He shared his studio on rue Montparnasse with the sculptor, Zorko. He has welcomed many artists, painter or sculptor, such as Ossip Zadkine and Etienne Martin. During this era, he realized several “sculptor paintings” and met frequently with Armando César, who worked in a neighboring studio.
Until 2008, Fachat exhibited often in Paris as well as outside of France in solo and group shows and art fairs.
