Léo Delibes. Signed autograph letter concerning his finest opera “Lakmé”

Léo DELIBES. 1836-1891. Composer.

Signed autograph French letter. Choisy-au Bac, France, Sunday.

4pp, in-12 bi-sheet, bearing music notes in text. Fine letter by Belibes concerning his finest opera “Lakmé”. The composer is sending short instructions for the tune subjects of Lakmé; I do not know if the paging partition of Ms. Melba is the same as the one I have here (which is an Italian score), but you will find good, anyway! I start (page 180) by some chords to establish the E minor tone and force the 4 measures are at the bottom of the page (...) then I hit hard the mid of the next measure to give heavily the tone for the singer (...). Finally, after the vocal highlight on the next page, I play allegretto 6 jingles measures (...). Delibes illustrates with several music staffs before continuing: I think you will see Ms. Melba to rehearse with her, either tomorrow, Monday morning or Tuesday. You can adjust this with her, and her movements (...).
