Dry gilt-lacquered Buddha head with red and black coloring
Large Shakyamuni Buddha head surmounted with a skull protuberance (urnisha) and topped with summit point designed as lotus flower bud. Elongated ear lobes. The finesse of the facial lines, half-closed eyes, downwards glance, arched and tapered eyebrows trace to the temples, long and straight nose, wide and symmetrical nostrils, mouth with thin lips and crescent smile, all detail major serenity, attest to the survival of a Pagan art directly influenced by Pala-Sena art of Bengal.
