Shale high-relief of Mahamantranusarini, one of the five Pancharakshas.
Resting on lotus-shaped plinth in front of mandorla, three-headed feminine divinity, richly adorned and seated vīrāsana (hero pose) on human body. She holds a noose, shield, skull cup, ax, sword and trident in her six hands.
The Pañcharakshyās or Pancharakshas (Five Protectors) are particularly popular in Nepal, notably with the Newars from the Kathmandu Valley. We evoke her as protection from diseases.
