Gilt bronze mantle clock, 18th Century


Chiseled gilt bronze mantle clock with decoration, white-enameled dial encircled with beaded rows, friezes of palmettes and interlacings, surmounted with hard stone sphere and ornated with inlaid square rule and compass. Flanked with cupid standing on Antiquity stool. Plinth is ornated with low-relief frieze representing a Fine-Arts allegory, laurel leaf wreath held by ribbons, palmettes and beaded rows. Atop four toupie feet. With winding key

Late 18th Century

Height: 35,5 cm (14 in.) - Width: 27 cm (10-1/3 in.) - Depth: 8 cm (3 in.).

Accidents on dial (cracks and chips) and restorations. Back of the dial missing. Hard stone sphere added later and was originally a lacquer sphere. Missing elements in the hands of cupid. Screws added later in the back of cupid and to the right and left sides of the dial.
