The Kermesse aux Etoiles:
The first Kermesse aux Etoiles was organized in 1948 by the social works of the 2nd Armored Division of Marshal Leclerc. Installed in the Tuileries Gardens for three days and nights, visitors could stroll among the many stalls and tents dedicated to the army and the Colonies, as well as by product promotions. The Kermesse owed its success to the presence of numerous stars from film and entertainment, but also writers. Everyone could then approach their idol to autograph a book that was given at the entrance. In 1951, Jacques Fillacier and André Hambourg had the idea to involve artists in this popular event. The visual arts stand at the Kermesse aux Etoiles opened in 1952. Installed on platforms, artists were working in front of a large crowd and did not hesitate to add their signature to a quick drawing or watercolor. The success was immediate and the participation of artists in the Kermesse aux Etoiles continued in 1953 and 1954.
