Elisabeth Garouste and Mattia Bonetti began working together in the early 1980s for stage design. She was a student at Ecole Camondo and was connected to the art world via her husband the painter Gérard Garouste. He studied in Italy before coming to Paris. Their recognizable “Barbare” or “Baroque” style had a great influence in renewing decorative arts during the 1980s.
