Chiseled silver oil-vinegar cruet stand with coat of arms
Gadrooned finial on two urns with pierced Greek fretwork frieze and acanthus leaves against a matted ground atop a plinth with alternating decoration of laurel wreaths and grand coat of arms with closed crown and beaded tierces. Coat of arms with cross pattée and Holy Sepulchre cross, encircled with necklace.
Oil and vinegar cruet (missing glass) with decoration of waterleaves frieze, pierced encirclement alternating with mythological dolphins and palmettes, atop gadrooned base enriched with interlacings frieze and waterleaves frieze. Support with balustrade decoration atop feet enriched with sphinx busts alternating with palmettes (one detached but still available foot).
Ensemble atop twelve prong feet.
Silversmith maker’s mark of Génu Marie Joseph Gabriel Orfèvrerie La belle argenterie.
He was one of the commissioned Biennais silversmiths and one can find his marks on numerous items and cases by the latter. He worked on Louis XVIII’s dental kit set as well.
