Shiva as form of Shiva Pashupati. Bronze

17th-18th Century

Height: 14 cm (5-1/2 in.).

Shiva, god of destruction of illusions and ignorance, is represented here ascetic with the Pashupati aspect, “protector of animals”. Full of love and adored by the watchful shepherd, he guides the herd wandering in the darkness to find the path that leads to internalization merging with the divine.
Pashupati, one of the very old forms of Shiva, is also lord of cremation place.
A very interesting object despite some visible losses.
