from the Ladies 1889 Pioneer Club
In 1925 the Johannesburg Ladies Pioneer club was one of the first female clubs created by Emilie Massingberd in 1892.
The Pioneer club gave this bronze statuette holding a small ingot in solid gold on the 23 rd of June 1925 in Johannesburg to the Prince of Wales during his visit to South Africa where he was representing his father, King George the V.
The Prince of Wales became king in 1936 under the name Edward VIII and the same year abdicated in the favour of his brother George VI so that he could marry Wallis Simon.
