Bronze Ganesh. Southern India, 16th-17th Century


Bronze Ganesh statuette. Ganesh is seated upon lotus-shaped base in meditation posture (Vajr-āsana) with tightly crossed legs and feet soles are apparent. With four arms, the right side are making dispensing gesture (varada-mudra) and holding elephant tusk. Left side holding a treat (modak) and tie. Throne base with his cosmic vehicle (vahana) the rat holding a laddu in its paws.

Southern India - Vijayanagara Dynasty, 16th-17th Century

Height: 7 cm (2-3/4 in.)

Wear due to repeated use during pūjā rituals.
