Betel nut cutter. Northwest India, 19th-20th Century


Brass betel nut cutter (sarota). Used to cut betel nuts in small pieces in order to incoporate betel quid (Hindi: pân). Designed with copper-engraved geometric decoration, peacock head and two curvilinear branches terminating with lotus bud.
