This famous drawing, which illustrates Napoleon’s episode at Norvins, depicted as "Brave des Braves" (the bravest of the brave) with rear guard of the Grand army during the retreat from Russia.
Ney proofed himself as exceptionally brave during this retreat, fighting often on foot as a simple soldier. This is the moment Raffet depicted.
