Antoine Louis BARYE (1796-1875)

Tortoise (on a square plinth, reduction)

Very fine antique bronze edition proof, signed with the seal "Barye", numbered "2".

Dimensions (approx.): Height: 3 cm (1.2 in.) - Length : 7,5 cm (2.9 in.)

Taking into account the numeration, it most certainly is a cast between the association of MARTIN-BARYE, executed between 1845 and 1857. The quality of this cast as well as the numeration of the proof ("2") makes this object particularly rare. The sculptor associated with the industrialist Emile Martin for financing the edition and the commercialisation of his sculptures. This association was a remarkable aesthetic success, however with little economic gain.
