Rectangular, silver-gilt tea box with foliated borders. The sides with putti or cupids riding a lion and lioness. The unhinged top is surmounted with a kneeling, young child.

This piece may have belonged to a dispersed or lost collection. Tea boxes were executed, during this era, in silver or silver-gilt because they contained sugar or spices from distant regions; therefore costly and highly sought after. For a similar model: Les Grands Orfèvres, de Louis XIII à Charles X, Hachette 1965, page 301 (piece executed by silversmith J. B. C. ODIOT).
Other boxes of similar, generic shape were realized notably by the silversmith M.G. BIENNAIS, in 1810 for the Emperor Napolean I and the Empress Maire-Louise.
