Biography of Gregorio Vardanega:
Italian-born artist. With his wife Martha Boto, they created the term "chromocinétisme" to describe their overall artistic research. He emigrated with his family in Argentina in 1926 and studied at the Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes at the capital. At school, he discovered the European avant-garde. In 1947 he participated in the "arte nuevo" exhibition curated by Arden Quin. His work expressed already his concerns over concrete space. He created his first works in three dimensions. In 1948, he traveled to Paris and met some avant-garde artists. In 1949, he exhibited at the "Salon of Latin America." In 1950, he exhibited at the Galerie Colette Allendy with "Madistes". In 1954, the "arte nuevo" exhibition (Arden Quin) was held. In 1956, he founded the ANFA group (Artistas no Figurativos Argentinos [Argentine Non-Figurative Artists]) with Martha Boto. In 1959 he settled permanently in Paris and joined Galerie Denise René. Within this gallery, he participated in several group exhibitions. In 1961 he exhibited at the Salon of Realités Nouvelles. In 1964, he exhibited solo for the first time in Paris and enjoyed great success which garnered him an important role in kinetic art. In 1965, his work drew from colors and playing with lights. In 1969, the Galerie Denise Rene dedicated him a solo show. From the 70s on and the rest of his life, his painting became geometric and pure, often brightly colored, as evidenced by the work presented on Expertissim with 'Graphisme vertical sur rond' from 1973.
