PEWTER EWER 'STEGKANNE',18TH CENTURY

Reference: 90908

Dimensions: Height: 32 cm (12-1/2 in.)

Valuation:
$761-$1,141

Pewter ewer known locally as 'Stegkanne', baluster form on a pedestal, furnished with a long spout linked to the rim by a moulded arm, with knop and a palmette-shaped thumb rest.

Bearing a mark of Johann KÜPFER, Master circa 1690.

Provenance: BERNE.

Very late 17th Century-first quarter of the 18th Century.

Height: 32 cm (12-1/2 in.)

Of very good quality and in a remarkable state of condition; no restoration or dents to signal.

The typology of these ewers is very close to the famous "Rembrandtkanne" also in pewter and often represented by the painter in still-lifes or domestic interior scenes and logically recall that this Bernese production is inspired by master, pewter potters from Medieval Holland that Rembrandt appreciated.
