Two red-wax seals on verso.
Nathalie Lemoine Bouchard (Les peintres en miniature [Miniature painters] 1650-1850), 2010 P . 455, states that Sambat, upon returning to England on July 14, 1790, lived on rue Taitbout and paid his rent sometimes with miniatures. She mentions several times that a portrait of Fabre d'Eglantine that was exhibited when the artist presented for the first time at the Salon des artistes libres on rue de Clery in 1791, maybe the same miniature that the artist restored in 1814.
