SEVRES.
Pair of ovoid-shaped "Etrusque Turpin" vases on a small round pedestal on a cobalt-blue ground decorated in gilt and platinum at the shoulder and rim with scrolling palm leaves and crossbanding with lozenges and daisies. Flowering foliage, foliage garlands and seeds on the body. Stylized gadroons on the small pedestal and Greek fretwork frieze on the border. Gilt fillets on the borders. Gilt ground handles. Two small chips on one small pedestal. Crack on rim. Traces of thin white glaze on one vase interior.
Gilt-bronze bases mounted at the factory.

Stamped with blue mark inside the rim: 1841.

Height: 39 cm (15-1/4 in.).

Cf: Two similar vases are displayed at the Chateau de Fontainebleau. There were delivered in 1842 for the salon of Princesse Clémentine.
Cf: Etruscan-shaped Turpin vase was created in 1831 under the influence of J-F Champollion. These vases were inspired by those found by Egyptologists on Egyptian monuments notably the tomb of Thèbes.
