After academic studies of mathematics, physics and psychology, Jean-Claude Commenchal was applied assistant manager of a regional commission for the external services of the Ministry of Justice. In 1981, he decided to live of what used to be just a hobby: the study and the research of ancient pewter objects.
In collaboration with a Commissaire-Priseur, he organized in 1983 the first auction of a collection of pewter objects.
Nowadays, he writes around fifteen catalogues per year of collections of pewter objects for several Parisian and provincial auction houses.
